Helping Patients Move With Strength and Confidence

When pain, injury, or mobility issues interrupt your daily life, having access to trusted orthopaedic care makes all the difference. At CNOS, our Orthopaedics team provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for joint pain, fractures, sprains, strains, arthritis, and a wide range of conditions affecting the bones, muscles, and connective tissues. Our goal is simple: to help you move better, heal faster, and get back to the activities you enjoy.

What Orthopaedics Covers at CNOS

Orthopaedics focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions of the musculoskeletal system. This includes:

  • Joint and arthritis pain
  • Muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries
  • Sprains, strains, and overuse injuries
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Back, neck, hip, and shoulder pain
  • Sports-related injuries

Because these conditions can limit strength, mobility, and quality of life, early evaluation is essential. CNOS orthopaedic specialists use advanced imaging, evidence-based diagnostics, and personalized treatment plans to provide the highest level of care.

A Full Spectrum of Orthopaedic Services

CNOS offers a complete range of orthopaedic services, ensuring continuity of care at every stage.

Accurate Evaluation and Diagnosis

Our providers use X-rays, MRI, ultrasound, and physical assessments to understand the exact cause of pain or injury.

Nonsurgical Treatment Options

Whenever possible, CNOS takes a conservative approach using:

  • Physical therapy
  • Bracing, splinting, and casting
  • Injections
  • Medication management
  • Activity and lifestyle modification

Many patients experience relief and improved function without surgical intervention.

Advanced Orthopaedic Surgery When Needed

When surgery is the best option, our orthopaedic surgeons provide expertise in:

  • Joint replacement
  • Tendon and ligament repair
  • Fracture repair and trauma surgery
  • Arthroscopic procedures
  • Hand, wrist, and upper extremity surgeries
  • Foot and ankle procedures

Our surgical approach emphasizes minimally invasive techniques, faster recovery, and long-term results.

Orthopaedic Urgent Care: Fast, Specialized Treatment Without the ER Wait

Injuries don’t follow a schedule — and when something suddenly hurts, swells, or stops working the way it should, you need care right away. That’s why CNOS offers Orthopaedic Urgent Care, providing immediate access to specialists who focus solely on bones, joints, muscles, and connective tissue.

Unlike general urgent care or the ER, CNOS Orthopaedic Urgent Care gives patients direct access to providers trained specifically in musculoskeletal injuries. This means faster evaluations, more accurate diagnoses, and treatment plans tailored to orthopaedic needs.

Orthopaedic Urgent Care is ideal for:

  • Sports-related injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Suspected fractures
  • Acute joint pain or swelling
  • Tendon or ligament injuries
  • Falls or sudden trauma
  • Work-related injuries

Patients benefit from on-site imaging, coordinated follow-up care, and immediate access to CNOS specialists — all in a convenient, walk-in setting.

Whether you’re a student athlete, an active adult, or someone who simply took a wrong step, Orthopaedic Urgent Care ensures you receive the right care at the right time, without unnecessary delays or emergency room wait times.

Why Patients Trust CNOS for Orthopaedic Care

Patients across the region rely on CNOS for many reasons:

1. A Highly Skilled Orthopaedic Team

Our providers include fellowship-trained specialists with expertise across all areas of orthopaedic care.

2. Coordinated, Multidisciplinary Care

Orthopaedics, sports medicine, pain management, physical therapy, and imaging all work together to create a personalized plan.

Cosmetic procedures are now available at CNOS—led by board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Chase Tobin. This new service expands our commitment to comprehensive care for the Siouxland community. At CNOS, we believe cosmetic procedures are about more than appearance—it’s about confidence, comfort, and feeling like yourself again. Whether you want to restore function after an injury, enhance your natural features, or rejuvenate your look, Dr. Tobin offers a full range of procedures designed to help you look and feel your best.

From cosmetic enhancements to complex reconstructive surgeries, Dr. Tobin and the CNOS cosmetic procedures team combine advanced training, artistic precision, and compassionate care to deliver exceptional results right here in the Siouxland area.

Meet Dr. Chase Tobin: Precision Meets Compassion

Dr. Chase Tobin, MD, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon practicing the full scope of cosmetic procedures—including surgery of the hand, wrist, and elbow, complex reconstruction, oculoplastics, and aesthetic surgery.

Originally from Missouri, Dr. Tobin graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baylor University and went on to earn his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. His surgical training at the Medical College of Wisconsin provided extensive experience in both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures, from delicate microsurgery to comprehensive cosmetic transformations.

Today, Dr. Tobin brings that same level of excellence to CNOS, helping patients achieve beautiful, natural results with a focus on safety, education, and confidence every step of the way.

Cosmetic Procedures at CNOS: Tailored Treatments for Every Patient

Cosmetic procedures at CNOS aren’t a one-size-fits-all experience. Every patient receives an individualized plan built around their goals, anatomy, and lifestyle. Whether you’re pursuing cosmetic surgery for rejuvenation or reconstructive surgery after injury or illness, Dr. Tobin tailors each treatment to enhance both form and function.

Facial Procedures
Reclaim a youthful, refreshed appearance with facial cosmetic options designed to highlight your natural features. Procedures like facelifts, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), and brow lifts help smooth lines, reduce sagging, and rejuvenate your overall look. Dr. Tobin’s refined approach ensures results that look natural—never overdone.

Breast Procedures
Whether your goal is enhancement, restoration, or reduction, CNOS offers personalized breast surgeries that balance aesthetics and comfort.

  • Breast Augmentation can enhance shape and volume using implants or your own fat tissue.
  • Breast Lift (Mastopexy) restores firmness and position for a more youthful silhouette.
  • Breast Reduction can relieve discomfort and improve posture, often covered by insurance for medical necessity.

Each procedure is guided by your vision—and Dr. Tobin’s commitment to results that feel as natural as they look.

Body Contouring
For those seeking to refine or reshape their figure, body contouring procedures at CNOS help restore confidence.

  • Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) tightens muscles and removes excess skin after pregnancy or weight loss.
  • Liposuction contours stubborn areas resistant to diet and exercise.
  • Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) eliminates loose skin and refines upper arm definition.

Patients who have undergone significant life changes—like pregnancy or major weight loss—can also benefit from a Mommy Makeover, a customized combination of breast and body procedures designed to restore your pre-pregnancy confidence.

Why Patients Choose CNOS for Cosmetic Procedures

Patients from across Sioux City, Dakota Dunes, and the greater tri-state area trust Dr. Tobin and CNOS for their expertise, safety standards, and personalized care. Every step of the process—from consultation through recovery—is built around open communication and patient comfort.

Here’s what sets CNOS apart:

  • Comprehensive Consultation: Dr. Tobin takes time to understand your goals, health history, and expectations before recommending any procedure.
  • Board-Certified Expertise: With advanced training in both reconstructive and cosmetic techniques, Dr. Tobin ensures safe, precise, and lasting outcomes.
  • Natural Results: Every treatment is designed to enhance—not alter—your natural beauty.
  • Collaborative Care: CNOS integrates its full network of specialists, offering a continuum of care across orthopedics, neurology, and rehabilitation when needed.

Am I a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Procedures?

Cosmetic procedures are a deeply personal decision, and the best candidates are those seeking to enhance—not completely change—their appearance. Ideal candidates typically:

  • Are in good overall health and maintain a stable weight
  • Have specific aesthetic or reconstructive goals
  • Understand the benefits and limitations of surgery
  • Are pursuing surgery for themselves, not to meet external expectations

During your consultation, Dr. Tobin will discuss your goals, answer all questions, and recommend the right procedure or combination of treatments to help you achieve your desired results safely and confidently.

Financing Options with CareCredit®

CNOS accepts CareCredit, a health and wellness credit card that offers flexible financing so you can pay over time for the care you want or need.*

Whether it’s a cosmetic enhancement or a reconstructive procedure, CareCredit helps make your treatment plan accessible and affordable.

October Shines a Light on Breast Cancer Awareness

Each October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month reminds us of the importance of early detection, support, and quality care. For many patients, hearing the words “you have breast cancer” can feel overwhelming. Questions flood in: Where do I go? Who do I see first? What’s my treatment plan?

At CNOS, we believe those questions should never be faced alone. That’s why our Comprehensive Breast Care Team exists—to surround patients with expert support and coordinated care every step of the way.

A Team Approach That Reduces Stress

Breast cancer care is rarely handled by one provider alone. It often involves surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and more. Without coordination, the process can feel confusing and stressful.

At CNOS, patients benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach that simplifies the journey.

What Is Coordinated Breast Care?

Coordinated Breast Care at CNOS means you are supported by a team of specialists who collaborate to create the best treatment plan for you. Instead of bouncing from one provider to another, your case is reviewed weekly by a multi-disciplinary team that includes:

  • Your family physician or OBGYN
  • A CNOS general surgeon
  • Radiologists and pathologists
  • Radiation oncologists and medical oncologists
  • Plastic surgeons specializing in breast reconstruction
  • Dedicated breast care coordinators

This approach ensures every detail of your diagnosis and treatment is discussed, reviewed, and agreed upon by a team of experts. The result is a clear, unified treatment plan that eliminates confusion and reduces stress—so you can focus on what matters most: healing.

The Coordinators Who Guide You

At the heart of the program are Breast Care Coordinators Sophia Sommervold and Nicole Trudeau. They are the first people you meet after a referral or diagnosis, and they remain by your side throughout your care. Their role is to schedule consultations, answer questions, and serve as your personal advocates.

Whether you’re meeting with Dr. Craig R. Nemechek, MD to review surgical options, connecting with oncology, or considering reconstruction, Sophia and Nicole ensure you always know what comes next.

Personalized Care for Every Patient

Every breast cancer journey is different. That’s why our team meets weekly to review cases and adjust treatment plans as needed. This collaboration ensures that decisions are based on the most up-to-date information—medical records, imaging, and pathology slides—so you can trust your care is in the best hands.

And because everything is coordinated, you don’t lose valuable time. Treatment begins quickly, giving patients confidence that their health is the top priority.

Beyond Treatment: Support for Healing

Comprehensive breast care at CNOS extends far beyond diagnosis. Patients have access to:

  • Breast surgery with experienced general surgeons
  • Oncology specialists who guide treatment decisions
  • Plastic surgeons skilled in breast reconstruction
  • Support services designed for recovery and long-term health

From the first appointment through follow-up care, the CNOS team is there—providing continuity, compassion, and clarity at every stage.

Why CNOS for Breast Cancer Care?

Choosing where to receive breast cancer care is a life-changing decision. At CNOS, you will find:

At CNOS, you’re not just a patient—you’re part of a team that’s committed to helping you heal.

Take Action This Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to take action. Whether it’s scheduling your annual mammogram or seeking care after a diagnosis, remember that help and hope are available.

At CNOS, you’ll never be alone with breast cancer. You’ll be with the best.

If you’ve struggled with weight loss, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out on your own. The CNOS Weight Loss team now offers a non-surgical, medically guided weight loss option that’s both effective and accessible. Whether you’re not a candidate for surgery or simply prefer a less invasive solution, our program can help jumpstart your health journey—with support, structure, and results you can count on.

At the center of our approach is Semaglutide, a once-weekly injectable medication that has shown significant success in helping people with obesity or overweight lose weight when combined with healthy habits. And with online scheduling now available, it’s easier than ever to get started.

What Is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It mimics a natural hormone released in your gut when you eat, helping your body produce more insulin, regulate blood sugar, and—importantly—signal fullness to your brain. That appetite-suppressing effect can lead to substantial weight loss when paired with diet and exercise.

Originally developed to treat Type 2 diabetes, Semaglutide has gained FDA approval in higher doses for weight management. At CNOS, we’re proud to offer this trusted therapy as part of our medical weight loss program for patients who want a structured, non-surgical option.

How Our Program Works

This isn’t a quick-fix plan or a trendy diet—it’s a medically supervised program designed around your individual needs. Once you complete a brief online intake form, our team will review your information to determine if you’re a candidate for Semaglutide injections. From there, you’ll meet with our bariatric coordinator and provider team to establish a personalized plan and monitoring schedule.

Our goal is to help you use the lowest effective dose possible to achieve results while minimizing side effects. You’ll start with a small weekly dose—typically between 5 to 10 units—and gradually increase it as your body adjusts. Some patients will maintain their initial dose, while others may work up to a higher amount. The upper limit is 240 units weekly, and dosing adjustments are made carefully based on how you respond.

Safety, Support, and What to Expect

As with any medication, side effects can occur, but they’re often mild and manageable. Some people report nausea, fatigue, constipation, or bloating, especially early on—but starting at a lower dose can help ease your adjustment. If side effects do become uncomfortable, you’ll be guided on how to scale back your dose temporarily before increasing again.

Semaglutide should always be stored in a refrigerator, and injections are self-administered once weekly. If you miss a dose, simply take it as soon as you remember—your new dose day will shift accordingly.

This program is not appropriate for everyone, which is why our intake process and ongoing check-ins are so important. Individuals with a history of medullary thyroid cancer or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 should not take Semaglutide. Patients who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding should also avoid the medication or consult closely with their provider.

We also want to know if you’re currently managing diabetes, kidney or pancreas problems, or taking insulin, as these can affect your treatment plan. Our providers take time to understand your full medical history, including any prescription or over-the-counter medications, supplements, or lifestyle factors like smoking or alcohol use that may interact with Semaglutide.

Convenient Online Appointment Scheduling

We’ve made it easier than ever to start your weight loss journey. With our secure online appointment form, you can request a consultation in just a few clicks—no phone tag, no waiting room lines.

Visit www.cnos.net/medical-weight-loss-form to complete the form, and a member of our team will follow up with scheduling options.

What Does It Cost?

The cost of the CNOS Medical Weight Loss program is $500 every three months, which includes your care plan and follow-ups. Medication is billed separately, as costs may vary depending on your pharmacy and insurance plan.

We’re happy to help you understand what your coverage may include and provide additional guidance. For questions about pricing or program details, you can always reach out to Heather Garlinghouse, at (605) 217-5511 or email heather.garlinghouse@cnos.net.

When Foot & Ankle Pain Demands Immediate Attention—Trust CNOS

Your feet and ankles take a pounding—whether you’re an athlete, on your feet all day for work, or simply going about your routine. These complex structures support your entire body and absorb the force of every step. Over time, or with one wrong move, that wear and tear can lead to injuries and chronic pain.

At CNOS, our goal is simple: keep you moving. Our Foot & Ankle specialists, led by board-certified surgeon Dr. David Rettedal, provide advanced care for everything from minor sprains to complex fractures and chronic deformities. And with Orthopaedic Urgent Care, you can access same-day treatment when foot & ankle issues can’t wait.

If you’re in pain, don’t ignore it. The right care today could prevent bigger problems tomorrow. Here’s why more patients are choosing CNOS Foot & Ankle services for fast, expert care.

Common Foot & Ankle Injuries and Conditions We Treat

At CNOS, our Foot & Ankle team takes a comprehensive approach to your care—evaluating every aspect of your condition and designing a personalized treatment plan. Whether you’ve suffered an acute injury or are dealing with a long-standing issue, we’re equipped to help.

We regularly treat:

Ankle Sprains & Instabilities
Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries, especially among athletes and active adults. Without proper treatment, a simple sprain can lead to chronic instability and repeated injuries. CNOS offers both conservative treatment and surgical repair when needed to restore full ankle strength and stability.

Foot & Ankle Fractures
Our specialists are experienced in treating fractures of the toes, foot, ankle, and lower leg. We manage both simple and complex fractures—including those requiring surgical intervention to ensure proper alignment and healing.

Heel Pain & Plantar Fasciitis
Persistent heel pain can sideline even the most active individual. Plantar fasciitis is a common culprit, but other issues such as nerve entrapments or stress fractures may also be involved. We offer advanced diagnostics to pinpoint the cause and a full spectrum of treatments to relieve pain and restore mobility.

Achilles Tendon Injuries
The Achilles tendon is the strongest tendon in the body—and when it tears or degenerates, your mobility is severely impacted. We provide both surgical and nonsurgical care for Achilles tendon injuries, helping patients regain strength and flexibility.

Sports & Overuse Injuries
Active individuals frequently develop stress fractures, tendonitis, and other overuse injuries. Our team works with athletes of all levels to optimize recovery while protecting long-term performance.

Arthritis of the Foot & Ankle
Arthritis can cause pain, stiffness, and deformity in the small joints of the foot and ankle. We offer both conservative management and surgical options, including fusion procedures and total ankle replacement for advanced cases.

Urgent Foot & Ankle Care When You Need It Most

Injuries to the foot and ankle can happen without warning—and when they do, waiting for an appointment can put your recovery at risk. That’s why CNOS offers Orthopaedic Urgent Care at our Dakota Dunes clinic.

Our Urgent Care team provides same-day walk-in access to Foot & Ankle specialists, including:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Fractures of the foot, ankle, and toes
  • Sports injuries
  • Small dislocations (toe, foot)
  • Work-related injuries
  • Overuse injuries

Unlike general urgent care clinics, CNOS Urgent Care is staffed by providers who specialize in orthopaedics—including foot & ankle care.

We also offer:

  • On-site x-ray and MRI
  • Casting and bracing services
  • Access to advanced durable medical equipment
  • Physical and occupational therapy to aid recovery

If your injury turns out to be more complex, you’ll have seamless access to the full capabilities of CNOS Foot & Ankle services—without having to switch providers or start your care over.

Advanced Surgical Options for Complex Foot & Ankle Cases

When conservative treatments aren’t enough, Dr. David Rettedal offers advanced surgical expertise to help restore mobility and relieve pain. His areas of specialization include:

  • Total ankle replacement for advanced arthritis

Sculpt Your Shape with SculpSure® at CNOS: Non-Invasive Body Contouring That Works https://www.cnos.net/sculpt-your-shape-with-sculpsure-at-cnos-non-invasive-body-contouring-that-works/ Tue, 10 Jun 2025 15:42:50 +0000 https://www.cnos.net/?p=16255341 The post Sculpt Your Shape with SculpSure® at CNOS: Non-Invasive Body Contouring That Works appeared first on CNOS.

BEFORE AND AFTER from SculptSure

If you’ve been working hard on your fitness and nutrition but still have stubborn pockets of fat that just won’t budge, you’re not alone. Many people struggle with small areas of fat that resist diet and exercise—especially in places like the abdomen, thighs, back of the arms, and love handles. At CNOS, we’re proud to offer a proven solution: SculpSure® body contouring treatments.

SculpSure is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared laser treatment that helps you reduce fat in targeted areas—without surgery, needles, or downtime. Whether you’re looking for more definition or just want a smoother silhouette, SculpSure can help you get there.

What Is SculpSure® and How Does It Work?

SculpSure uses a non-invasive laser to deliver heat directly into your body’s adipose tissue (fat cells). This process, called laser lipolysis, gently heats and damages the structure of fat cells without harming surrounding skin or tissues. Over time, your body naturally flushes out the damaged fat through the lymphatic system, gradually revealing a slimmer, more contoured shape.

  • Treatment Time: Each session takes only about 20 minutes
  • Recovery: No downtime; mild tenderness may last 1–3 days
  • Results: Most patients see noticeable results in 6–12 weeks
  • Cost: Approximately $800 per session, or $200 per treatment block

Areas We Treat at CNOS

At CNOS, our Cosmetic Clinic offers SculpSure treatments for the following body areas:

  • Abdomen (belly fat)
  • Flanks (love handles)
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Back of arms

Please note: While SculpSure also offers treatments for the chin (submental area), CNOS does not offer SculpSure for the chin at this time. We focus exclusively on non-invasive body contouring for the arms, abdomen, thighs, and love handles.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

A typical SculpSure treatment at CNOS is fast, comfortable, and stress-free. During your session, you’ll lie back while our provider applies the laser device to your target area. Most patients describe the sensation as a warm tingling or deep heat—intense but tolerable.

There’s no downtime, so you can return to normal activities immediately. You may feel mild tenderness or swelling in the treated area for a day or two, but it won’t interfere with your routine.

Because the body eliminates fat gradually, you’ll start seeing changes within 3–6 weeks, with optimal results around 12 weeks. Best of all, the fat cells are permanently destroyed, meaning they won’t come back in the treated area (though maintaining a healthy lifestyle is still important).

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

One of the most common questions we get is: “How many SculpSure treatments will I need to see results?” The answer depends on your individual goals and the area being treated. Some patients are happy with the results after just one session, while others may choose to return for 2–3 treatments spaced several weeks apart for optimal results.

At your initial consultation at the CNOS Cosmetic Clinic, our provider will assess your body type, target areas, and desired outcome to create a customized treatment plan tailored just for you. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to body contouring, and our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Is SculpSure Right for You?

SculpSure is designed for people who are already at or near a healthy weight but want help refining specific areas that won’t respond to traditional weight-loss methods. It’s not a weight-loss treatment, and it’s not intended for individuals who are obese.

You may be a great candidate for SculpSure if:

  • You have localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise
  • You prefer a non-surgical option for fat reduction
  • You want minimal recovery time and no disruption to your daily life
  • You’re looking for gradual, natural-looking improvements

Not sure if you qualify? Our experienced cosmetic dermatology team at CNOS will walk you through everything and help you determine if SculpSure is the best choice for your goals.

Combining SculpSure with a Healthy Lifestyle

While SculpSure permanently destroys treated fat cells, maintaining your results depends on your overall lifestyle. Fat cells that remain in untreated areas can still grow larger if you gain weight, so pairing your treatment with regular exercise and balanced nutrition helps you maintain long-term success.

Our patients often feel more motivated after seeing results from their SculpSure sessions, using it as a catalyst for healthier habits. Whether you’re already active or just starting your wellness journey, SculpSure can be a powerful boost toward your body goals.

Why Choose CNOS for Body Contouring?

At CNOS, we combine medical expertise with personalized care. Our Cosmetic Clinic offers a welcoming, professional setting where your safety and comfort come first. The leap from high school to college athletics is more than just a physical challenge—it’s a mental one. At CNOS, we understand that training the mind is just as important as training the body. That’s why Tracy Meis, our dedicated Mental Performance Consultant, works closely with high school athletes, preparing for the next level of competition.

Whether you’re a student-athlete, a parent, or a coach, mental performance matters. With the right support from Tracy, high school athletes can build the mindset and skills needed to thrive in college athletics.

What Is a Mental Performance Consultant?

As the Mental Performance Consultant at CNOS, Tracy Meis works with individuals across the performance spectrum to strengthen their inner edge and maximize their potential. Tracy’s services include helping clients reach their performance goals, address performance challenges, and improve their overall well-being.

Whatever the need, Tracy partners with athletes to develop the mindset and skills necessary to meet the demands of sport—and life—through a personalized and evidence-based approach.

Why Sports Psychology Matters for High School Athletes

High school athletes face growing pressures as they pursue collegiate-level opportunities. Sports psychology provides essential tools to manage these pressures and perform at their best.

At CNOS, Tracy Meis helps student-athletes navigate mental challenges like stress, fear of failure, burnout, and pressure to perform. Through mental toughness training, Tracy helps athletes build resilience, sharpen focus, and boost confidence—qualities that directly translate to better performance and a smoother transition to college sports.

Developing Mental Toughness

Mental toughness is more than a buzzword. It’s a key trait that allows athletes to stay focused, bounce back from setbacks, and perform under pressure.

Through one-on-one coaching, Tracy Meis teaches athletes how to:

  • Stay composed in high-pressure moments
  • Recover quickly from mistakes
  • Maintain a positive mindset even during setbacks
  • Persist when others might give up

These skills, taught through structured mental conditioning, give athletes the competitive edge needed to succeed both on and off the field.

Goal Setting for Athletes

Goal setting is one of the most effective tools in any athlete’s mental performance toolkit. At CNOS, Tracy Meis helps athletes use the SMART goals framework—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—to stay focused and motivated throughout their athletic journey.

Tracy guides athletes through:

  • Setting meaningful short- and long-term goals
  • Tracking progress and staying accountable
  • Adjusting goals when challenges arise
  • Celebrating small wins to build momentum

With clear goals in place, athletes maintain motivation and navigate the tough transition from high school to college sports with confidence.

Essential Techniques from Sport & Performance Psychology at CNOS

Through CNOS’s Sport & Performance Psychology program, Tracy Meis offers a wide variety of evidence-based tools and techniques tailored to each athlete’s individual needs.

Visualization & Mental Imagery

Visualization is a powerful technique that primes the mind and body for peak performance. Tracy teaches athletes how to mentally rehearse success—whether it’s making the game-winning shot or staying calm under pressure.

Daily visualization strengthens confidence, focus, and overall performance.

Breathing Techniques

Controlled breathing is a critical tool for managing stress in competition. Tracy Meis trains athletes in diaphragmatic breathing to help them stay grounded, control nerves, and maintain composure during intense moments.

Self-Talk & Affirmations

An athlete’s inner dialogue shapes performance. Tracy helps athletes recognize negative self-talk patterns and replace them with positive affirmations, such as:

  • “I am prepared and capable.”
  • “I can recover from any mistake.”
  • “Pressure is a privilege.”

Consistent use of affirmations fosters a mindset of resilience, growth, and self-belief.

Preparing for College Athletics

The demands of college athletics can feel overwhelming without the right preparation. Tracy Meis works with student-athletes to mentally prepare for what lies ahead, ensuring they’re ready to thrive both on and off the field.

Managing Expectations

College athletes must juggle high performance expectations, new responsibilities, and greater independence. Tracy helps athletes set realistic expectations and build the mental flexibility needed to adapt and excel.

Balancing Academics and Athletics

With intense schedules and academic requirements, time management becomes crucial. Tracy Meis works with athletes to develop effective routines, prioritize tasks, and stay balanced—ensuring success both in the classroom and on the field.

Building a Support Network

Success is a team effort. Tracy helps athletes identify and build their support networks, including coaches, teammates, academic advisors, and family members. CNOS also encourages athletes to use campus mental health and academic resources when needed.

CNOS: Supporting the Whole Athlete

At CNOS, we are proud to offer Sport & Performance Psychology services led by Tracy Meis, empowering athletes to unlock their full potential. Whether you’re developing mental toughness, setting strategic goals, or learning how to manage the mental pressures of competition, Tracy is here to support you every step of the way.

Weight loss surgery offers a transformative path for those struggling with obesity-related health issues, providing a sustainable way to achieve lasting weight loss and improve overall health.

For individuals considering this option, CNOS Weight Loss team in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, offers expert guidance and care throughout the weight loss journey.

In this article, we’ll cover the common health symptoms faced by candidates for weight loss surgery, recent changes in Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments, the differences between sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery, and the keys to long-term success.

Health Symptoms and Problems for Weight Loss Surgery Candidates

Candidates for weight loss surgery often face multiple health issues linked to obesity, which can affect both physical and mental well-being. Common health concerns among potential candidates include:

  • Type 2 Diabetes: Excess weight often impacts insulin resistance, increasing the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
  • Hypertension: Obesity places additional stress on the heart, leading to high blood pressure.
  • Sleep Apnea: Many candidates experience sleep apnea, a serious condition that impacts breathing during sleep.
  • Joint Pain: The extra weight can cause joint pain, particularly in the knees and lower back, affecting mobility and quality of life.

Changes in BMI Assessment for Weight Loss Surgery

Previously, BMI thresholds for weight loss surgery were higher. However, recent changes have broadened the criteria to include patients with a BMI of 30 or higher who also suffer from obesity-related conditions like diabetes or hypertension.
The experts at CNOS in Dakota Dunes keep up with these evolving standards, helping more people find life-changing solutions through weight loss surgery.

Types of Weight Loss Surgery: Sleeve Gastrectomy and Gastric Bypass

Two common types of weight loss surgery are sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery. Each procedure offers unique benefits, but they also differ in terms of effectiveness, recovery, and long-term success.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

In a sleeve gastrectomy, a large portion of the stomach is removed, leaving a smaller, tube-like stomach. This limits food intake and decreases hunger-stimulating hormones. The procedure has grown in popularity due to its simplicity and effectiveness.
Effectiveness: Patients typically lose about 60-70% of their excess weight within 18-24 months.
Recovery: Recovery times are relatively short, with many patients resuming regular activities within two to four weeks.
Long-Term Success: With diet and exercise, sleeve gastrectomy can offer sustained weight loss, but lifestyle changes are essential for maintaining success.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass involves creating a small stomach pouch and rerouting a portion of the intestine. This limits calorie absorption and reduces food intake.

  • Effectiveness: Gastric bypass surgery tends to result in more rapid and significant weight loss compared to sleeve gastrectomy, with patients often losing up to 70-80% of excess weight within the first two years.
  • Recovery: Recovery may take longer than sleeve gastrectomy, usually around four to six weeks.
  • Long-Term Success: Studies show that gastric bypass often leads to better long-term weight loss, but it requires ongoing dietary and lifestyle management.

Keys to Success: Diet, Exercise, and Lifestyle Changes

Long-term success with weight loss surgery depends on a commitment to significant lifestyle changes. The CNOS Weight Loss team supports patients with resources and guidance in the following areas:

  • Dietary Changes: Proper nutrition is key. Patients learn to consume balanced meals, focusing on protein, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Exercise: Regular physical activity is crucial for maintaining weight loss. CNOS weight loss experts recommend a gradual increase in physical activity as part of a sustainable routine.
  • Lifestyle Adjustments: A positive mindset, stress management, and forming healthy habits play a big role in success.
  • Support Groups: Support groups are beneficial for sharing experiences, staying motivated, and learning from others’ successes and challenges. The experts at CNOS in Dakota Dunes encourage patients to join local or virtual support groups for continuous support.

Recovery and Long-Term Success with the CNOS Care Team

Recovering from weight loss surgery involves careful post-operative care. Both types of weight loss surgery require dietary adjustments during recovery, typically progressing from liquids to pureed foods and eventually solid foods.
The CNOS Weight Loss team in Dakota Dunes South Dakota supports patients through each step of recovery, emphasizing the importance of a personalized care plan and follow-up visits to monitor progress.

In the long term, patients who stick to their care team’s guidance on diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications experience significant health improvements, including reduced symptoms of diabetes, lower blood pressure, and increased mobility.

If you’re struggling with obesity-related health issues and considering weight loss surgery, the experts at CNOS in Dakota Dunes are ready to help. With the right surgical procedure and a dedicated approach to diet and exercise, many patients achieve lasting success and improved quality of life.

The CNOS Weight Loss team will guide you every step of the way, offering expertise and resources to help you achieve a healthier, more fulfilling life.
